Senior Driving School Information

Our senior driving school provides seniors the opportunity to continue driving and maintain their independence. Whether you are looking to refresh your driving skills or retain a driver’s license, our program teaches seniors the necessary required to operate a vehicle safely and effectively. As we age, there are many factors that may hinder our ability to operate a vehicle safely. It is important to understand what these factors are so they can be addressed by a certified driving instructor. Feel free to give us a call or email us at info@bestladrivingschool.com for more information about our senior driving school.

Our driving instructors provide complimentary pickup and drop off from any location you may desire so you can focus on what matters most, driving.

Drivers in California who are 70 years of age or older are required to renew their driver’s license in person. Lucky, the standard of driving a vehicle for seniors is the same for every driver in California. The DMV also requires seniors to take the vision exam at the time of renewal. We recommend at least 2 hours of training behind the wheel but will recommend on a person by person basis.

The Vision Test

Seniors renewing their driver’s license will also be asked to take a vision exam to ensure they can operate a vehicle safely. The exam will require seniors to read letters 20 feet away to demonstrate their vision has not deteriorated to the point of being an unsafe driver. If these standards are not meet, they will be referred to a licensed vision specialist. You will also be asked to take the Supplemental Driving Performance Evaluation (SDPE) if you failed the vision exam.

The Supplemental Driving Performance Evaluation

Senior drivers may be required to take this evaluation if either failed their vision exam or lack certain driving skills that hinder their performance behind the wheel. The failure of this examination could result in your license bring restriction, suspended or revoked.
